How to Remove a Watermark from a Photo with AI
A step-by-step guide to removing text watermarks, logos and date stamps from your own photos with AI inpainting—plus tips for clean results.

A date stamp in the corner, an old logo on a product shot, a "SAMPLE" overlay on a photo you've since licensed—small marks like these can make an otherwise good image unusable. Cloning them out by hand in a photo editor takes time and rarely looks natural on textured backgrounds.
AI watermark removal takes a different approach: it finds the mark and regenerates the pixels underneath from the surrounding image, so skies, fabric, skin and patterns continue through the area where the mark used to be.
Before you start: only remove watermarks from images you own or have the rights to edit—for example your own photos, or stock images you have licensed. Removing a watermark to use someone else's work without permission can violate copyright and our Acceptable Use Policy.
What the tool can remove
- Text watermarks — site names, "SAMPLE" or "PREVIEW" overlays, copyright lines
- Logos and badges — corner logos, channel marks, small brand stamps
- Date and time stamps — the orange digits many cameras burn into the corner
- Semi-transparent overlays — faint repeated marks that sit on top of the photo
Step by step
1. Upload your image
Open Remove Watermark and drop in a JPG, PNG or WebP file. You can also paste an image from your clipboard, or pick one from your Assets. Start from the largest, sharpest version you have—the result keeps the framing of your original.
2. Add instructions (optional)
The tool removes watermarks, logos, text overlays and date stamps automatically, so most of the time you can leave Instructions empty. If the image contains text you want to keep, or the mark is in an unusual place, a short hint helps, for example:
- "Remove only the logo in the bottom-right corner"
- "Keep the shop sign; remove the website text across the middle"
3. Start processing
Click Start processing. A progress bar and timer show while the AI works; most images take well under a minute.
4. Check the result with Compare
Switch to Compare and drag the slider across the image to see the original and the cleaned version side by side at the same position. Look closely at areas with fine texture—hair, foliage, text that sat under the mark.
5. Download, or keep editing
- Download saves the cleaned image.
- Use as input sends the result back into the tool—handy when a faint trace is left: run it once more on the result.
- Continue in opens the result in another tool, such as Image Upscaler to enlarge it, or AI Object Removal to erase other distractions.
Tips for cleaner results
- Use the original file. Screenshots and heavily compressed copies have less detail for the AI to work with.
- Big marks over busy detail are the hardest. A watermark across a face or small text may need a second pass; check the Compare view before you download.
- One area at a time. If an image has several different marks and one keeps coming back, describe just that one in the instructions and run again.
- Don't expect hidden text to return. If the watermark completely covered words or numbers, the AI fills that area with something plausible—it cannot recover the exact original text.
FAQ
Is it free? Signed-in users get a small number of free credits every day, which is enough to try the tool. Beyond that, each run uses credits from your balance—see Pricing.
Will the image lose quality? The tool keeps the framing of your photo and blends the repaired area with its surroundings. If you need a larger file afterwards, run the result through Image Upscaler.
Can I remove watermarks from stock photos? Only if you have licensed the image and the license allows editing. Unlicensed preview images are protected by copyright.
